Detroit People Mover Guideway
Project Overview
The Detroit Central Automated Transit System (commonly referred to as the People Mover) is an automated lightrail transit system using an elevated guideway with a continuous loop route configuration. The transit system travels on rails mounted on the top deck surface of the guideway. The superstructure of the guideway consists of precast, post tensioned, concrete segmental box beams supported on a substructure of conventionally reinforced and post tensioned reinforced concrete columns.
Project Scope
The DTC selected NTH to conduct a structure inspection and maintenance assessment in order to ascertain the current structural condition of the guideway and its components, and to provide recommendations for guideway repairs and the methods to complete those repairs.
NTH conducted a guideway inspection to ascertain the current structural condition of the guideway and its components and to provide a documented history. Guideway inspections were accomplished in accordance with Federal Highway Authority (FHWA) National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS).
NTH is now coordinating the maintenance repair work for DTC with D. C. Byers, providing construction contract administration and quality control services.
