US 23 CEI Spencer Rd to M-59 & Genesee County Line

Project Overview

NTH was selected for the US-23 resurfacing and repair project in Livingston County to provide overall project management, engineering and administration oversight for the project. This contract included 7.90 miles of cold milling of existing asphalt pavement, resurfacing the pavement with a hot mix asphalt (HMA), resealing longitudinal and transverse joints, drainage improvements, a concrete box culvert replacement, median barrier replacement with outside barrier repairs, and signing and striping pavement markings on the roadway. The limits of the project on US-23 were from north of Spencer Road to M-59 and north of Crouse Road to south of Clyde Road in Livingston County.

Project Scope

NTH’s services included full time and on-demand QA material sampling and testing and inspection assistance. The QA material testing services consisted of sampling HMA for submission to MDOT laboratory testing, field concrete testing, and in-place field density testing for aggregate placement. NTH also assisted Benesch with inspection of the joint resealing, observing HMA milling operations, performing calculations for HMA yield and contractor coring locations, HMA load ticket collecting, IDR preparation, and HMA and concrete QA plan preparation.

Client Benefit

NTH’s ability to perform multiple services allowed the flexibility to staff the project to keep pace with the construction schedule.
